WHY WERE
THE MOTOWN TEMPTATIONS CHOSEN TO SING BACKGROUND ON BISHOP JOE SIMON’S CD?
The Motown Temptations and I agree that it would be wonderful for us to make a musical CD.
Sometime later, we agreed upon the place, the city, the studio and the time. The day of the recording, I went into the studio two hours before the Temptations arrived to pray!
After I prayed, the Motown Temptations arrived at the studio one and two at a time. We sat and talked about different things. In other words, we talked about the good and bad times on the road! The Apollo Theater in New York, the Howard Theater in Washington, D.C., the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia and the Regal Theater in Chicago.
After chatting a while, Mr. Otis Williams said, “Joe, man, let’s get started.” At this time, the Temptations did not know that I had prayed for the program. During the beginning of the recording, I remained in the control room with the engineer. The Motown Temptations went out to the main floor in the studio to begin singing! They still did not know that I had prayed!
After singing, one of the songs several times, they did not know the microphone was open and I heard a Temptation say “I feel something, don’t you?” another member said, “Yell, I feel something,” another member said “this Joe Simon is good” and another said “let’s see if we can get Joe Simon to travel with us!”
They did not know that I had prayed that my personal friends, the Motown Temptations, would travel with me.
